So, it seems pretty counter intuitive right; to go from specific to general. When pretty much everyone in the industry tells you that you need to niche down and you need to get specific and become known for one thing. The truth is, I don’t want to be known for one thing.

I actually said at the beginning of 2017 that I didn’t want to be an expert; all I actually want to do is take the information I learn that works for me and rely it to you to help you rise up and succeed so that we can all actually be living these lives that we enjoy living and making our own rules. Really, I just want everyone to be happy!

But why? Why do I want to go against what the industry says? I mean, isn’t that dangerous? Could I lose my business because of it? Could I lose my customer base? Could I lose followers? Probably….but, here’s the three reasons why I’m going to go general anyway.

I AM PRACTICING HAVING IMMENSE TRUST IN MYSELF

In 2017 alone, I learned to trust myself blindly and wholeheartedly, more than I have ever done in my life. And doing so, it has lead me to incredible opportunities, adventures and people who I would never have been able to meet or come across had I not listened. And the more you listen, the easier it becomes and the more things flow. And so the message that’s been coming through for me loud and clear is that I need to go general because I have a higher purpose that I need to start leaning into now. And so I am.

THE TOPICS THAT I HAVE TALKED ABOUT PREVIOUSLY ARE TREND BASED

Now this became a big concern for me because the thing with trend-based topics is that a lot of them become irrelevant over time. Some of them actually become irrelevant very quickly. What I mean by that is if you look at some old websites that have been around for a while, and you look at some of their old posts from say 2011/2012; you will find that a lot of their content is completely irrelevant now.

Like, I saw a post the other day on this website that’s been around for many, many years, it’s on social media. And it was giving out a tutorial on how to set up a Facebook fan page in 2011. Now, if you had a fan page in 2011, you know that currently, today, it looks nothing like that. It isn’t even the same process anymore of how you would go to set it up. So that post is now completely irrelevant. It doesn’t help anyone because it doesn’t make any sense! Because it doesn’t exist anymore! That’s my biggest concern, there is content that I have from a year ago that is irrelevant now.

Sure, I could go back and repurpose it and update it to be relevant but when you’re going higher, when you’re wanting to go bigger, the last thing you want to be doing is constantly going back and updating content. And imagine if it was one of your most popular posts, and you monetised it and it was making you good money and now it’s completely void. That will have a huge impact on your income. So, that’s why I want to go general and focus on more evergreen topics, focus on more principal based topics, so that they don’t actually go out of fashion.

I HAVE ALWAYS FELT LIKE I WAS MEANT FOR BIGGER THINGS

When I started House of Brazen, I chose to become known for passive income but over time I actually started to feel like I had nothing more valuable to offer other than sales strategy. And I know that’s completely not true; I know I have so much more to offer but somehow I had managed to box myself into this and it was completely stifling my creativity. But also in that time I had learned that sales strategy is actually the easiest part. There is something far greater and far more important that’s holding people back and is why they’re never going to succeed unless they actually work on it. And that’s their psychology.

And that’s why I know its time to shake off this label that I’ve put on myself that I’m a passive income expert or I’m just focusing on sales strategy and I need to go general, I need to focus more on principals and on the psychology part because that’s what people need help with the most. Even if they don’t realise it, that’s actually what they need. And while I don’t definitively know what my purpose is yet, I know the direction that it’s in and so, I’m going for it. I’m trusting…

Now that doesn’t mean I’m suddenly going to go from talking about business and life to forestry or classic cars or high cholesterol or something weird like that; I’m still staying within the topic of business and life but I’m going broader so that I can help you in more ways than just one.

I’d now like to hear from you: What are your thoughts on going from specific to general considering that the majority of the industry says that you need to niche down? Do you agree with it? Do you not agree with it? Let me know in the comments below.
