Hello hello friends! Guess who’s back with another income report! Me! It’s been a while… quite a while since the last one actually – two months in fact! – so I’ve decided to combine the previous two months to catch up!

Dare I say it, it was a rather quiet two months on the blog side while I was working on the back-end of the business. Not a whole lot happened, but my business chugged along nicely.

I started House of Brazen in January 2016 while still working a day job and by March I was already making my first few sales. I was growing more and more unhappy in my job each day and in june I finally quit my job to work on my business full-time.

I should mention that I did this without having any other financial back-up other than my savings and I wasn’t making a liveable amount from my blog yet. Luckily, taking that risk was the best choice I made because I was able to grow my business fast enough that I now make a full-time living from it.

My favourite thing about running my own business is the freedom you get to do what you want with your time, so I share these income reports because I want to help you grow your business and achieve the same freedom in your life so you can spend more time doing the things you love with the people you love.

Alright, let’s do this! 😀

Total Revenue: $2204.16

This post contains affiliate links.

Total Expenses: $248

NET PROFIT: $1956.16

So what happened during these months?

After I had finished with the back-end prep, I took most of December off to enjoy with friends and family. My boyfriend Scott came up with the idea of doing 12 dates of Christmas, so the month became one big fun-filled event that I absolutely LOVED. And it helped me to step right back from my business, relax, even forget about it for a while and get caught up with life again. Coincidentally, once I relaxed, new and fresh ideas for my business came flooding in! I think there really is something in taking regular breaks from your work to reset and let inspiration find you once again. This is a habit I’m definitely going to take with me into 2017.

You know you’re uplevelling when refunds make you excited! I’ve been waiting for this because I wanted to experience what they would be like and what the issues would be. I got a total of 3 refund requests for my How To Make Your First Affiliate Sale in 24 Hours ebook and ALL of the requests were due to the ebook not being delivered after purchase.

After further investigation, I found that two customers had entered their email incorrectly with a letter missing, and one customers email bounced all emails sent from me so I had to send the ebook manually through my personal email! Everything was corrected and sent off and the customers were totally wonderful about it all. It just goes to show, that sometimes errors will happen even when the system is set up perfectly.

Something I’ve been wanting to do for years is move from blogging to video, and I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchased a few new exciting toys on Amazon to get started with. I got a webcam, a microphone and a tripod which cost me around $150 altogether. Surprisingly affordable! I’ve said it a few times in previous posts, it’s the little things that help you feel more pro and progress you to the next level in your business. Bootstrapping is fun, but it can hold you back a lot of the time. So sometimes you do have to make the investment, even when it’s uncomfortable or even when you barely have the money, because the feeling it gives you is what will get you to the next level.

And there you have it! Did you learn something new? Is there anything more you would want to know? What are you taking away from this report and implementing on your blog?

    Hey Elise!

I love how you bit the bullet and started a YouTube
channel! I’m always trying to grow as a blogger (I’m a total introvert)
and I made it a mission to try new things this year. I started a new FB
group and did my first FB live session! So happy for myself. And I’m
looking forward to checking out your videos 🙂

    • Thanks Elna! Woohoo on your new group and FB live! I am still yet to do one of those myself. I’ll get there! 😉

  • 12 Dates of December. That sounds so fun! What a great idea. I would love to steal this idea for my husband and I. 🙂

Even though you took a break, your business still did well. That’s pretty awesome. Also, I’ve never heard anyone say they were excited by a refund request. I totally get it, but usually people dread those moments. I have scripts ready for when refund requests are sent. It makes the process a lot smoother and a lot less stressful. I’m glad your experience went well!

    • Hey Tiffany, go ahead and steal away! 😉 Yeah, I guess it sort of signifies a new level of business. But that’s a genius idea for having scripts to handle tricky requests! Actually you’ve just reminded me of a course I bought years back that has scripts for every tricky scenario we have to deal with in business. I’m gonna go check that out right now! 😀

  • I love your videos and I hope will be more 😊 Can you tell from who you buy your video intro? Also do you use ifttt.com for automation? I’ve read great reviews about that but I don’t use yet because I think is quite complicate. What do you think?

    • Hey Alex! Thank you so much for your lovely words 🙂 I got my video intro on Fiverr here: https://www.fiverr.com/users/elisemcdowell/orders/FO8119D679308 and I have tried IFTTT and I think it’d great for SOME platforms, but for what I was looking for there wasn’t a good option. But I know bloggers like McKinzie from Moms Make Cents and Elna from Twins Mommy both use IFTTT for their social media automation. Hope that helps! 😀

      • Thank you so much Elise! I will try IFTT and other options to check which is best for me 🙂
